Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani has left the APC, after a theatrical end to the impasse in the Kaduna Central Senatorial district saw him losing his candidacy to Uba Sani.
Uba Sani is the Special Adviser on Political Matters to Nasir El-Rufai, the Kaduna State Governor, and was declared to have won the primary election for the Senatorial seat in the district.
What Did Shehu Sani Say?
Senator Sani, having been ditched for the candidacy of El-Rufai’s candidate, Uba Sani decided to quit the APC but spoke well about the party in his statement.
He said; “I present to you my highest compliments and wish by this communication to formally offer to you my resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC),” read the letter seen by TheCable.
“l had joined the APC and remained with it against all odds in the belief that it will constitute a veritable platform for the realization of those democratic ideals which I hold very dear, that honor and integrity will be the ultimate ethos of the patty and, most importantly, that internal party democracy will always be the norm. However, only posterity can affirm the extent to which the APC has committed to and reflected these values.
“As I exit the APC at this point in time. I wish to formally thank the party for availing me the platform upon which I am currently serving this country in the honoured capacity of Senator of the Federal Republic.
“I wish the party well in all her future endeavors and ask sir, that you please accept the assurance of my highest considerations.”
Was Shehu Sani Jettisoned At The Death?
Shehu Sani had been singled out and announced as the sole candidate of the APC in the Kaduna Central Senatorial District.
While the Kaduna State APC held a primary election that had Sani absent, Uba Sani won and was announced as the candidate of the party for next year’s election. Shehu Sani described the election as a ruse and illegal as he banked on the insistence of the APC NWC at the time.
Former Acting National Publicity Secretary, Yekini Nabena said earlier in October;
“As far as Kaduna Central Zone 2 is concerned, the only candidate is Senator Shehu Sani.
“Yes, the election took place in that zone because of the House of Representatives and the State House of Assembly; as for the senatorial position, however, the only candidate is Senator Shehu Sani.”
After several displeased parties reared their heads at the aftermath of APC primaries held across the federation, an appeal committee was formed by the National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole and Prof. Oserheimen Osunbor was made the Chairman of the committee.
The committee, withholding the initial stance of the APC NWC said Shehu Sani is the recognised candidate of the party in the Kaduna Central Senatorial district.
In a swift turn of events, Shehu Sani’s name was at large and conspicuously missing when documents seen by Political Stew had Uba Sani’s name submitted to INEC as the party’s Senatorial candidate in the district.
What Is The PDP Saying?
Shehu Sani was one of the Senators of the APC who stayed back in the party after a wave of cross-carpeting between parties saw 14 Senators from the APC move to the PDP. The dramatic lawmaker, Dino Melaye in his reaction to Sani’s statement said tweeted;
“Sen Shehu Sani has just dumped D(sic) APC. People who did not like you in the morning & afternoon but claim to like you at night, I beg borrow urself(sic) some brain. Baba God I thank you say I no become suya in the hands of cash & carry party. (APC) Aboki accept my condolence. oh my home”
The coming days will be more revealing on the next step of Senator Sani.
