The Minister of Communications, Barrister Abdulraheem Adebayo Shittu, has picked up the gubernatorial nomination form of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in Oyo State.
With Shittu joining the Oyo State governorship race, the long standing rift between him and Governor of the State, Abiola Ajimobi, may heighten going into the election.
The minister had missed Saturday and Sunday’s meeting between Governor Ajimobi and other gubernatorial aspirants in the state ahead of the 2019 general elections.
While almost all the gubernatorial aspirants attended the meetings, Shittu was absent with no explanation. His absence was followed by him obtaining his nomination form at the APC secretariat in Abuja.
Shittu who is said to be out of Nigeria at the moment, obtained the form through Saheed Oladele, Head of Adebayo Shittu Strategy Committee and Malik Aderogba, Head of Special Tasks for Adebayo Shittu’s Campaign Organization on Monday.
This development would make worse the already bad relationship between the minister and Governor Ajimobi with Shittu now sure to go up against the Governor’s perceived candidate in the party’s primary.
After obtaining the form on behalf of Shittu, Oladele in a statement confirmed that his principal has indeed obtained the expression of interest and nomination forms.
He said, “Director of Media and Strategy, Mr Saheed Oladele, and the Head of Special Tasks for Adebayo Shittu’s Campaign Organization, Mr Malik Aderogba have just obtained expression of interest and nomination forms on behalf of the Honourable Minister of Communications, Barrister Adebayo Shittu.
“May God accept our prayers”.
