Senator Godswill Akpabio representing Akwa Ibom North West District at the Nigerian Senate has resigned his position as the Senate Minority Leader.
The Akwa Ibom North West lawmaker resigned in a letter dated August 4, 2018, and sent to Deputy Senate Minority Leader, Senator Emmanuel Bwacha.
In the resignation letter sighted by Political Stew, Senator Akpabio copied the Senate President, Deputy Senate President, Senate Leader, Senate Minority Whip, Senate Deputy Minority Whip, Clerk of the Senate, Clerk of the National Assembly, the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nigeria’s main opposition party, Prince Uche Secondus and all senators.
Though Akpabio did not state the reasons for his resignation, PS can, however, report that this is tilting towards our August 5 exclusive report that the Akwa Ibom North West lawmaker will be decamping to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria’s ruling party from the PDP.
PS had reported that the former Senate Minority Leader, will not only decamp to the APC but will be joined by three (3) members of the House of Representatives from Akwa Ibom State as well as twelve (12) members of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.
Political Stew, an all politics website also reported that Akwa Ibom State Governor, Emmanuel Udom held a caucus meeting of the PDP in the state over the said issue.
