National leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated his support for only a candidate with merit after meeting with President Buhari.
In a statement by Tinubu’s media adviser, Tunde Rahman, he was quoted to have expressed his expectations of a free, fair and credible primaries on Tuesday.
Rahman said; “Asiwaju Tinubu and Chief Bisi Akande were invited by President Buhari and it turned out to be a good and productive meeting. Asiwaju was quite pleased to have conferred with the President who has always shown himself to be a committed party member and a true democrat.
“Just like the President, he is looking forward to a good and credible primary that is peaceful and free of rancor. As previously stated, Asiwaju plans to vote in this primary and his position regarding the relative merits of the candidates remains unchanged.”
Tinubu’s support has been well reported to be for Jide Sanwo-Olu, who is running against incumbent, Akinwunmi Ambode for the Lagos APC governorship ticket.
Ambode, in a Press Conference said Sanwo-Olu is unfit to lead Lagos. He added that the former Commissioner has mental health issues and was once caught spending fake dollars in an American night club.
Sanwo-Olu refuted the allegations saying he believes Ambode is under pressure and will change his statement when he feels ‘cooler’.
Tinubu in a statement after the Press Conference also said Ambode’s performance was not good enough, as he stated that he had gone notches lower than the ‘enlightened governance’ previously witnessed in the state.
