Benue State Governor, Samuel Orton has defected to the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP from APC.
Orton’s defection is coming barely 24 hours after lawmakers in the state impeached the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Terkimbi Tyanger.
Many lawmakers had on Tuesday also defected to the PDP as they continue a wave of swirling movements away from the ruling party. They also join 14 Senators and over 30 members of the House of Reps who left the party for the PDP yesterday.
Orton’s defection was said to have been necessitated by his willingness to get the will of his people done. He had defected from the PDP to the APC in 2015 as part of similar mass defection.
Ortom had made the announcement at a meeting with elected local government chairmen and councillors on Wednesday at the Government House Makurdi, as reported by Channels Television.
He has been mooting his imminent departure for some weeks now as one of three governors who will defect from the party. He was also seen in a photo with Senate President, Bukola Saraki, PDP Chairman, Uche Secondus, Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal and others in what suggested his possible defection then.
