The Ekiti State chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Nigeria’s ruling party, Jide Awe, says what transpired between the state governor, Ayodele Fayose and the Police during a campaign rally of the People’s Democratic Party, Nigeria’s main opposition party, could be described as the “comedy of the year.”

Political Stew recalls that men of the Nigeria Police Force had on Wednesday, July 11, blocked the entrance to Ekiti State Government House in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.

During the operation, the police officers allegedly shot tear gas canisters which affected the Ekiti State governor.

This online medium recalls that Governor Fayose had claimed that he was slapped by the police officers during the operation.

In his reaction, Awe called on Governor Fayose to learn how to conduct himself properly in the public as the Chief Security Officer of the state.

His words: “It is entirely a security matter. The governor is the Chief Security Officer and should know how to conduct himself properly in the public.

“Probably it was part of the instruction given to the Police as the chief security officer that led to the situation”, he added.
