Ayodele Fayose, outgoing Ekiti State governor.

The outgoing governor of Ekiti State, southwest Nigeria, Mr Ayodele Fayose, has vowed to reward anyone who is “illegally arrested” in the cause of the governorship election in the state by Nigerian security agents with the sum of N50,000.

Mr Fayose who made this vow on the micro-blogging site, Twitter on Monday night, July 9, specifically stated that anyone that is “illegally arrested” by “policemen and DSS” officials will be paid N50,000 for each night spent in detention.

The Ekiti governor tweeted: “Henceforth, anyone that is arrested illegally by Fayemi and his rampaging Policemen and DSS on this election issue will get N50k for each night spent in detention”.

Mr Fayose initially made the promise after he met with Aborisade Sunday, a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Nigeria’s main opposition party, who claimed he was illegally detained by the DSS for five (5) days.

“They detained me for five days. They put chain on my hands and legs. I cannot hear through my left ear now due to the beating I received from them,” Sunday had said.

The governor promised him the sum of 250,000, amounting to 50,000 a night, and further promised to reward other members of the PDP in DSS custody.
