Reports making the rounds about Akinwunmi Ambode endorsing Jide Sanwo-Olu as the Governorship candidate of the APC is FAKE, Political Stew confirm.
An inside source who spoke to Political Stew on the condition of anonymity said;
“But you should know this is fake now. Anything that does not come from the governor’s media office should be absolutely disregarded. It’s purely a fake write up by mischief makers. Mind you, the governor has some of the finest media team of which you are aware of and they will always brief Lagosians on developments and not some unverified online letter”
Fake reports had gotten loose earlier on Wednesday, quoting Ambode on his endorsement of APC Governorship aspirant, Sanwo-Olu.
The statement which we have gathered is fake, because it did not emanate from the governor, said;
“I, Akinwunmi Ambode the executive governor of Lagos state after due considerations and consultations, I have decided to suspend my campaign for the second term as the executive governor of our great state.
This is done in good faith to put the interests of our great state ahead of our personal ambition and to honour the clarion call for a change of leadership by our great party.
I am committed to the program and manifestos of our great party APC to improve the lives of the people of Lagos state and Nigeria as a whole.
In view of this, I hereby endorse Hon Jide Sanwolu to represent our party for the office of the executive governor of Lagos state.
I thank the leadership of our party at all levels for their supportive role during my term as the executive governor of Lagos state.
God bless Lagos state.”
Investigations by Political Stew have however, revealed there are scheduled meetings between party leaders and Ambode.
Reacting to the viral report, Mr Akinfala, a Social Commentator said;
“It’s not good to be a bad leader, news of Ambode stepping down, adopting Sanwo-Olu has started trending. Ambode’s media team who could have helped to dispel the falsehood are looking away.
This is a great lesson for all leaders.”
The Governorship primaries of the APC has been scheduled to come up on the 29th of September.
