The Federal government has appointed Mustapha Lawal Suleiman as the new permanent secretary of the ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Mustapha who assumed office on Monday was until his redeployment, a Permanent Secretary of the Career Management Office CMO in the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation OHCSF.
He is replacing the immediate past Permanent Secretary, Olukunle Bamgbose who retired, on Friday 21st of September, 2018, after 35 years in the
Federal Civil Service.
In a statement signed by spokesperson of the ministry, Tope Adeleye Elias-Fatile,
Mutapha’s educational background reveals that he is a graduate of Sociology from Bayero University, Kano with a Master’s degree in Sociology from the University of Jos and in Industrial and Labour Relations, from the University of Ibadan.
He also holds an Advanced Personnel Management Certificate from the Administrative Staff
College of Nigeria, (ASCON), Badagry, Lagos.
According to the statement, after joining the Federal Civil Service in 1991, Mustapha served as Director (Administration) at the State House and was part of the Presidential delegation to United Nations General Assembly in New York, to the G.15 Summit of 2001 in Indonesia and to the Association of African Public Service Commissions (AAPSComs) General Assembly where he was once a member of its Executive Committee at various times.
The new Permanent Secretary also served as a member of Inter-Ministerial Planning Committees for ECOWAS summits, by Africa-South America summit, Africa-German Forum, Presidential inaugurations and Nigeria @ 50 celebration, among others.
Similarly, he was with the State House to the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC) where he served as Director of Policy, Research and Statistics (PRS) before attaining the position of Permanent Secretary of the commission between 2013- 2017.
A one time member of the Planning Committee for the 60th
Anniversary of the Nigerian Public Service Mustapha coordinated the Annual Conferences of the Civil Service Commissions in the Federation.
Additionally, Mustapha is an active sports person and is a member of the Kano Pillars Basketball Team as well
as Chairman, Board of Trustees of Premier Basketball Foundation Team.
