Hon Zainab Gimba has on Saturday night emerged winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for Bama, Ngala, and Kalabalge Federal Constituency held at the Elkanemi Warriors Sports Centre Maiduguri, Borno State
Hon Gimba code 604 votes to defeat his closest rival and the current occupant of the seat Hon Mohammed Nur Sheriff who scored 317 votes. Abdulrazaq Ahmed Zanna came to a distant third with 19 votes while Baba Mala Kaigama and Saleh Gambo got 3 and 2 votes respectively.
Announcing the winner, the Chairman of APC electoral Committee in Borno State, Hon Ahmad El.marzuq said that Hon Zainab Gimba emerged winner of the APC primary election having scored the highest votes cast.
” By the powers conferred of me as the Borno State Chairman of APC electoral Committee, I hereby declared Hon Zainab Gimba as the winner of the APC primary election for Bama, Ngala, Kalabalge Federal Constituency,” El-Marzuq said.
But the primary election of Hon Zainab Gimba Zainab did not come easy; it’s adjudged as the most contentious primary elections more than that of the state governor.
The Bama, Ngala and Kalabalge Federal Constituency election which lasted for three days saw many of the APC delegates who hail from Boko Haram devastated communities sleeping on the ground due to delay by the power brokers who had interest in who becomes the next Federal lawmaker.
Finally, voting started at about 5 pm on Saturday evening but not long after that, some thugs invaded the venue and started beating up delegates suspected to be supporters of Hon. Gimba.
The police were however left with no option other than start shooting tear gas to dispersed the thugs and restore order
“I have never been teargassed in my life, this is the first time and it’s so bad, ” says El-Mazuq noting that “I can cancel this election if things continue this way. I don’t feel secure here ” he had threatened by the police brought the situation under control.
In the end, it was all joy for Gimba and her supporters. She commended her supporters for their resilience and urged them to continue to support governor Kashim Shettima and other APC leaders in the State.
