The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has displayed the provisional list of the governorship candidates for the 2019 governorship election in Imo state.

However, the names of the candidates fielded by the All Progressives Congress APC for the election is conspicously missing.

When did INEC display the list?

INEC displayed the provisional list on Friday at its headquarters in Owerri.

Why did INEC Omit APC’s candidates?

It was gathered that INEC’s refusal to publish any governorship candidate fielded by the APC may be connected to a Court Order restraining the commission from accepting or publishing any candidate from the party except Uche Nwosu who is recognised as the authentic governorship candidate.

Recall that the APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomole had forwarded the name of Uzodinma to INEC as the party’s governorship candidate in the forthcoming governorship election as against the court order.

Candidates that made the list

A total of 67 candidates from other political parties made the provisional list.
They include; former Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha Peoples Democratic Party PDP and Senator Ifeanyi Ararume All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA amongst others.

Uche Nwosu’s response to INEC’s omission

A governorship candidate under the platform of the All Progressives Congress APC in Imo state, Uche Nwosu has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC for obeying a court Order restraining it from accepting or publishing any other name as the governorship candidate of the party in the state.

He also chided the National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomole for attempting to create confusion within the party by submitting Hope Uzodinma’s name to INEC.

Nwosu said, “I want to thank the National Chairman of INEC, Mahmood Yakubu for adhering to the rule of law by obeying subsisting Court Order as it concerns the Imo APC. I did not know why Oshiomole should insist on changing the name of people that won primary elections with that of those that never won. In my own case I won the governorship primary, I have Police report, DSS report and INEC report affirming my elections as the APC governorship candidate in Imo. I don’t know why Oshiomole is trying to substitute my name with that of the person that never won election”.

Nwosu also stressed, “I am confident that the Court which is the last hope of the average man will dispense justice in this matter and my mandate as the APC governorship candidate will be restored.”
