Dr. Kayode Fayemi, Ekiti State governor-elect.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Nigeria’s electoral umpire, has declared former Nigeria’s Minister of Mines and Steel Development and candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr John Kayode Fayemi winner of the Ekiti State governorship election.

 The returning officer of the election and vice chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Idowu Olayinka made the announcement at the INEC collation centre in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti state capital on Sunday, July 15.

According to Professor Olayinka, Fayemi defeated the current Deputy Governor of the state and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Kolapo Olusola, in 12 LGAs.

The APC candidate and former Nigeria’s Minister of Mines and Steel Development, garnered 197,459 while Olusola polled 178,114 votes.

“That John OluKayode Fayemi of APC having fulfilled requirements of the law and got the highest votes is the winner and is returned elected”, Professor Olayinka said.
