Muhammed Imam has emerged the governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) after winning with a landslide at the governorship primary conducted on Sunday in Maiduguri, the Borno State Capital.
Muhammed, a former Commissioner of Education in Borno State was declared winner after posting 2,785 to defeat his closest opponent Kyari Abba Bukar who scored 52 votes. The third aspirant, Barrister Mohammed Wakil scored 20 votes only.
While declaring the result of the election, the returning officer and Chairman, Borno State PDP Governorship Primaries Electoral Committee, Chief Gebon Timothy Kataps said the election was hitch free and delegates were orderly.
Kataps disclosed that the committee was given a list of 3035 delegates by the State PDP Secretariat through the State Chairman, Alhaji Zanna Gaddamaand while the committee accredited 2866 delegates.
He declared “by the powers conferred on me as the returning officer of the 2019 Borno state PDP Governorship primary election hereby declare Muhammed Alkali Imam winner of the primary election and returned elected having scored the highest votes of 2785 cast.
Fielding questions from reporters, Muhammed Imam expressed gratitude to his party delegates and promised to restore peace to Borno State.
“My priority will be to bring back peace to Borno State. I will create job opportunities for youths and reduce poverty in our state. I will also ensure that all Borno children are enrolled in school if voted into office .” Imam said
